Career and Company Objective

I've decided to be very intentional regarding my next career opportunity.  I have enjoyed nearly every position I've held over the last 20 years, but this next one may very well be the most important in my career.  To that end, I've defined below what I believe to be important to me (and my employer) in my next position.

The position must be:

1) Spiritually rewarding...I have to know that the work I'm doing is positively helping someone directly or down the line.

2) Dynamic...never stagnated or stuck in a daily routine.  The job must have lots of activities to remain fresh, vibrant and challenging.

3) Fun...The work environment must have a sense of joy and camaraderie.  A lot of time will be spent there, so it must be enjoyable.

4) Full of growth opportunities...I want to keep learning and acquiring new skills and expertise...I love the challenges that change and new experiences bring.

5) Recognized as an important position in the company...I want to have the authority to have a direct, positive impact on an organization and those benefiting from it including my employees.

The company must be:

1) Responsible...an organization that holds it's employee's well-being and customer's safety/satisfaction above those of the profits of its shareholders.  I believe that long-term shareholder wealth is a direct RESULT of these other two areas being priority in the organization.

2) Progressive...a company that is either growing fast, undergoing substantial positive change, or providing consulting services to that end for other companies.

3) Worthwhile...a company that has the "greater common good for all" as part of it's purpose such as those in education, healthcare, environmental protection, or those that ultimately and clearly benefit the consumer or our country.

In my 20 years of business leadership and taking MANY personality assessments, I have NEVER come accross one that is so accurate and dead on as StrengthFinders 2.0.  If you want to document what "makes you tick" and where your strenghts are, buy the book and take the on-line assessment.  Click here for a link to my report. If you read this, you will have a very accurate perspective and understanding of who I am and what I can do for you and your organization. I would recommend this assessment to ANYONE who wants to truly succeed in life.

Personality Assessments

I recently took a Jung (similar to Meyers/Briggs MBTI) Test with the following results:

Extroverted (E) 76.67% Introverted (I) 23.33%
Intuitive (N) 54.55% Sensing (S) 45.45%
Feeling (F) 58.33% Thinking (T) 41.67%
Judging (J) 51.61% Perceiving (P) 48.39%

ENFJ - "Persuader". Outstanding leader of groups. Can be aggressive at helping others to be the best that they can be. 2.5% of total population.

As you can see, I score very close to the median between Judging and Perceiving and have had other tests results indicate that I'm an ENFP.  This only confirms my interests in leading organizations through change (i.e. project management).  I get a great deal of personal satisfaction in helping someone else succeed in their goals.

As part of Origen's Management Training, the company conducted a "DiSK" profile analysis that helps people understand their own temperment and how to deal with others once you understand theirs.  Although not as complex as the Meyers-Briggs test, it does help to understand what motivates people and what "makes them tick" so to speak.  Here's mine in pdf format...I have nothing to hide!

Proof of Professional Certification

PMI’s Certified Project Manager Professional Exam is one of the most difficult certifications to obtain (the grueling 4 hour test was full of question’s such as “what is the BEST option” that lets you know you have to select one answer from four “correct” answers with over two-thirds of the questions being posed in a situational format).  PMI is one of the oldest project management organizations (established in 1969), is recognized worldwide, and is the world’s leading non-profit project management professional association. PMI has three principle goals: establish ethics, standards, and accreditation for project management professionals. PMI provides project management services in over 125 countries with many educational and professional development opportunities. In October of 1999, the PMP certification received ISO 9001 certification from the National Registry and the Dutch Council for Accreditation. This certification signifies international recognition for PMI’s PMP certification program. As such, PMP is the first professional certification program ever to attain ISO 9001 certification.

Six Sigma is a business management strategy, originally developed by Motorola, that today enjoys wide-spread application in many sectors of industry. Six Sigma seeks to identify and remove the causes of defects and errors in manufacturing and Business process. It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization ("Black Belts" etc.) who are experts in these methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has quantified financial targets (cost reduction or profit increase).

Transcripts from Texas Wesleyan University

Texas Wesleyan University is a small, private liberal arts college in Fort Worth, TX.  I attended Texas Wesleyan College (as it was known previously) from 1985 through 1989 for my BBA in Information Resource Management.  A few years later I decided that an MBA would help me move out of the IT world and into management (which it did).  After looking at all of the available programs in the area, Texas Wesleyan's MBA program proved to be what I was looking for.  Our class assignments were actual projects assisting business and organizations in the Fort Worth community.  In addition, finals consisted of written essays and PowerPoint presentations...a more "real world" approach in my opinion than to just traditional testing.  I focused my electives in graduate school on Change Management and the dynamics that change has on the organization.  I completed my 36 hours of graduate work in just two years (Jan of 1998 through Dec of 1999) by taking 6 hours each semester, including the summer sessions, all while working full-time at NationsCredit.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my MBA (one "B" in my first semester!).
